5347935171b1b.preview-620Kids get to move to the rhythms of world beats — African, Caribbean and South American — at this Saturday’s Symphony Kids concert.

Percussion players from Helena Symphony Orchestra will introduce children to the sounds of the djembe, shekere, claves, maracas, Congo drums and guiro — and they’ll even get to try them out at the end of the concert.

“They’ll see different instruments than what they’re used to,” said assistant conductor Breanne Cepeda. “We’re not talking the xylophone, glockenspiel and chimes.”

The free concert, particularly designed for ages 5 through 10, starts at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, at the corner of Cruse Avenue and Lawrence Street. But all ages are welcome — from the very young to the young at heart.
